Leopold Mozart (1719-1787)

The father of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and an eminent violinist and teacher.  He was the author of "Versuch einer grundlichen Violinschule" (Treatise on the Fundamental Principles of Violin Playing), Augsberg 1756 (London 1951).  This work is one of the first written on successful methods of violin playing.  Along with C.P.E. Bach and Quantz, he provided an account of the musical practice of the Classic era.
