Pizzicato
An Italian term used with stringed instruments (of the violin family) to
indicate that the string is to be plucked
with the finger, as it regularly is in guitars and harps. The
initial use was conceived and employed by Monteverdi.
Paganini introduced the virtuoso
technique of plucking the strings with the left hand in alternation or
simultaneously with bowed tones.
