Meistersinger
A member belonging to the highest rank of a German guild of amateur poet-musicians
of the 15th and 16th centuries. These artisans and merchants were
the successors to the aristocratic minnesingers.
They were active in southwest Germany, particularly in Mainz and Nuremberg.
