Strophic form

Designation for a song in which all stanzas of the text are sung to the same music, in contrast to a song with new music for each stanza (through-composed). Generally the former method is preferred for simple lyrical texts and the latter for highly dramatic texts of more refined lyrics involving subtle shades of mood and expression.
