Hildegard von Bingen

(1098 -1179)

An abbess, mystic, poet, and composer, who wrote prodigiously, is known for the liturgical drama, "Ordo virtutum," in which the sixteen virtues do battle with the devil over the human soul.  Her influence over the highest clerical and political figures of her time was remarkable.
