Lukas Foss (1922 - )
An American, began his compositional career as a neoclassicist. After
approximately 1960, his interest in improvisation led him to explore various
aspects of indeterminacy.
"Time Cycle" (1960), for soprano and orchestra, has been recorded and enjoys
considerable success. His "Baroque Variations" (1967) plays on compositions
by Handel, Scarlatti,
and Bach.
