Come,
Celebrate
The
Christmas Carols
of Lon Chaffin
Come,
celebrate and sing about
the most wonderful event
in human history, the
birth of our savior, Jesus
Christ.
This collection of
original Christmas carols
is more than just notes
and words on paper.
It’s a forty-year journey
of sharing the message of
Christmas with friends and
family.
In 1980, inspired by the
carols of Alfred Burt, I
decided to write a
Christmas carol for all of
our family and friends,
instead of sending a
traditional store-bought
card. It was
certainly not as visually
appealing as a purchase
from a greeting card
company, but the message
of Christ and the personal
sentiment seemed to touch
those who received
it. I continued the
tradition for the next
forty years.
I recently decided it was
time to share the whole
collection. You
would think there would be
forty carols in this
book. If you count,
you will only find
twenty-seven. As we
all know, life can
sometimes surprise and
confound us, demanding
that our time be spent in
unexpected ways. So,
there were a few years
when new carols were not
created and previous
carols were “recycled” and
sent again.
As you make your way
through the carols, you’ll
find a diverse collection
of themes, perspectives,
and musical ideas.
You’ll see songs of praise
and celebration, prayers,
observations about life,
and thoughts to challenge
and encourage you.
The musical ideas are
sometimes simple and
occasionally complex,
sometimes fun and playful
or melancholy and
serious. They all
have one thing in common,
the hope that comes
through Jesus Christ.
My hope is that you enjoy
singing these, whether in
a service of worship, or
just with family and
friends. My prayer
is that, through them, you
will be drawn closer to
the Savior and encouraged
to share Him with others.
“Celebrate Life.
Celebrate hope.
Celebrate Jesus, the
King.”
